Class Websites
Purpose: to gather, display, and explain evidence of meeting the targets for the course.
Structure and Content Reminders:

Other Notes: In order to learn from each other, we would like to make all websites public to this class; that means you can all access each other's sites if you would like to. Please remember that these are all practice at this point.
How-to Reminders: Forget how to add links? How to get to your site? These tips may help. If they don't, please email us!
Getting to your site: the link below will bring you to a non-editable version of your site. In order to edit, log into your CVU email and click on the Google Drive icon (the 9-square square in the top right corner); scroll down to the very bottom ("more") until you get to Weebly and click on it. This will take you to your Dashboard. Click on your site name in order to edit.

Structure and Content Reminders:
- You should have 5 pages (tabs): Home, Articulate, Differentiate, Communicate, and Resources
- Home Page: this is up to you--there are no actual requirements for this page, but it's a place for you to express yourself as much or as little as you want. You can explain the purpose of your site, you can introduce yourself, you can include pictures, you can link to your Moodle pages...whatever you want.
- The Articulate, Differentiate, and Communicate pages should each start with a 250-500 word explanation of the page--what the category means to you, why it's important to learning, and how what we know about the brain supports it. Think of this as the opportunity to explain to someone who is unfamiliar with teaching and learning how and why each of these components is essential. Use what you know from the 2 summer required readings: the Art of Changing the Brain and Fair Isn't Always Equal.
- Your final page, the Resource page, should include resources, sites, thinkers, authors, peers, and any other sources or people that have been important to your thinking. This is where you might include the role Twitter has played, the role working with colleagues has played, or how inspired you were by the Heath Brothers. The purpose of this page is to begin to piece together a collection of professional influences, sources, and areas of interest. A website can be a great place for you to gather important sites and links in one place. Be sure to explain what each link or site is or provides to you.
Evidence:
- Over the summer you will begin to fill in each of the pages with evidence. Remember: you can only add evidence to the Articulate and part of the Differentiate pages--until we meet in August, you will not be able to have evidence in the Communicate page; and until you start teaching your first unit, you will not be able to provide evidence of most of the Differentiate targets.
- During the first week of August, Stan, Monica, and Emily will look at your sites and provide detailed feedback on your work. We will make observations, point out bright spots (a la Switch!), and make suggestions.
- When we meet in August, we will help you fill in parts of the Communicate tab, and prepare to complete the Differentiate section through actual work in your classroom. At the end of your first unit (or part way through, depending on timing), you will complete the Communicate section by including a standards report.

Adding Evidence by linking to a Google doc:
- Save the document as a Google Doc (see below for directions); click Share; change access settings to "Anyone with the link can view"; copy the link.
- Go to your Weebly edit site; go to the page you want to work on (through Pages tab).
- Drag Text into the page (from the left)
- Type a brief description of what you are about to link to (i.e Physics 1 Unit 3 KUD and Scales); highlight the text; click on the chain icon (in the tool bar)
- Paste the link from your google doc into the box; click the "Open page in new window" box.
- Save.
- Publish (orange button in top right corner). Once the Website Published! box comes up, just x out of it!
Saving a Word Doc as a Google Doc:
- Go to Google Drive (from your CVU email page, click on the 9-square square and click on Drive)
- In the upper left corner, next to Create, you will see a little icon; click on this and click on upload Files.
- Choose the document you want to upload. After a moment, the document will appear in your Drive list with a blue W next to it. That means it's a Word doc still. If you know you won't be making changes to it, you can skip to step 5 (but if you want to be able to change it and have the changes appear on the website, then go to step 4)
- Click in the box next to the document; click on More (at top) and then "Open with..." and then "Google Docs".
- When the document is open, click on Share in the right hand box, and that brings you back to Step 1 from the previous list!
The Emergency "I am so frustrated with Google Docs that I could break my computer" shortcut:
- In your Weebly editing mode, go to the Build feature (top bar), and bring your cursor over to the left so that you can drag options in. Make sure you are on the Page that you want to add your document to (i.e. Articulate)
- Scroll down until you get to the Media section. Drag "Document" into your page. Upload your document. Done.
- Publish. (once the Website Published! box comes up, just x out of it!)
