Sample Structures from CVU Teachers
Structures that Help All Students
There are certain structures or templates that might help all students access your content through reading. This is not making it easier for students, it is helping them get the important content more efficiently.
Here is an example of an assignment from one of our teachers.
Class: Driver's Ed
The Reading: A USA Today article (link): he gave the students hard copies of the article
Purpose: To understand both sides of the debate about the driving age and to be able to support your own opinion.
The teacher used the provided template (can be found here or linked on the Reading Page under Purpose) to make it clear to students why and how they should be reading, and attached the template to the reading. He also included the scale for reading comprehension (found on the Reading Page) and underlined the specific skill that he was focusing on for this assignment so that he could provide feedback to the students and begin to track reading comprehension.
